Eads Takes Division 1 Main
at Indianapolis National Speedway
Indianapolis, In. Sept 16
By Kurt Bauer
With 14 Speedway
bikes entered in 3 divisions it looked a great night of Speedway racing for
Sideways Saturday at Indy. Todd Eads was eager to get back to racing after
beating former 2004 and 2005 track Champion (Joe Garrison) on Labor Day weekend.
Eads wasted no time proving that race was no fluke by beating Garrison in the
first Division One heat race. Jim Terchila decided he was also going to be in
the mix for D1 racing tonight by taking the lead at the start of the fourth D1
heat race. Terchila’s lead didn’t last long as Garrison passed him for the lead
on the second of four laps. Terchila would have none of that as he cut
underneath Garrison going into turn three on the final lap for the win. Somehow
Garrison caught his ankle wrong and pulled over to the wall after the final lap
and was calling for the Medics. His night was done as he would have to take a
trip to the hospital to have some X-rays.

B.J. Fesselmeyer was stoked to race in Division 2 since his sponsors were in attendance for Bloomington Harley Davidson’s night at Indy. He did not disappoint them with no one coming close in his heat races except for one that he had a spectacular crash at the finish line on the last lap with his bike crossing the finish line without him. Division 3 had some real competitive racing with a lot of talent for a beginner class with Chance Hardman and Jeff O’Banion leading the way looking like they had been riding Speedway bikes for years.
With the exciting heat races complete this would determine who would make it to the Main Events. Division One would gate Eads, Terchila, and the Weicht brothers Dan and Dave. Eads would take the lead going into turn one with Dan Weicht and Terchila close behind. Eads was holding the lead after one lap with Terchila and Dan battling for second place. Terchila would eventually take second place away from Dan on the third lap. So at the finish it was Eads for his second consecutive main win. With Garrison not making the main Eads would get within one point in the overall standings with three races left. Garrison’s ankle was not broken but he may not be near 100% for the next race in two weeks. Should make for an exciting finish in Division one.
Division Two would
stage Fesselmeyer against Aaron Nichols, Chris Hathaway, and Jerry Huff sporting
a new helmet and gear. As
the gate came up Fesselmeyer wasted no time taking a
commanding lead all the way to the finish line staying on his bike this time.
Nichols and Hathaway would take second and third with Huff’s bike sputtering on
the final lap.
Division three would have Hardmann who had been dominating all night; lining up against O’Banion, Ron Okamoto, and Corey Eads on his Dad’s old bike. Hardman would take the lead with O’Banion right on his rear tire. By lap two Hardman was getting faster and faster pulling away for the victory ahead of O’Banion. Okamoto and Eads finished third and fourth but rode smooth and fast for D3 riders.
The last race of the evening would be the Last Man Standing. This would stage the four D1 riders with hotshoe D2 rider B.J. Fesselmeyer. They would start out with a one lap dash with the last place rider being eliminated then coming back to the start line for another one lap dash until two riders were left for a two lap race for the Last Man Standing. As the track announcer, Rick Dorfmeyer was explaining the format to the crowd Fesselmeyer was the first one to enter the bullring as he was ready to race with the D1 riders. So as the gate went up it was Fesselmeyer right with Eads. Terchila had a terrible start and no time to recover in a one lap race; so he was the first to be eliminated as he pulled to the infield. They lined up again with Dave Weicht being the next victim to join Terchila in the infield. Brother Dan would also join them in the infield which left Fesselmeyer a chance at the D1 rider. Eads would take the lead and hold on for two laps but Fesselmeyer was not too far behind for an exciting Last Man Standing which only took a few minutes run.
UPDATE FROM ROGER GARRISON
X-rays came out ok its not broken but he can not walk on it.

Indy 07/29/06
The format was changed slightly for this event. The top three in points after four heats got a direct transfer to the front row in the main event. Riders in positions 4-6 went to the front row in the LCQ, and riders in positions 7-9 went to row 2 in the LCQ. The top three riders in the LCQ went to the 2nd row in the main. Overall it worked out very well, and made for some great racing.

Report by Jim Terchila
Note from Jim,
D-1 riders were awarded points based on how they finished
among the other D-1 riders, same for D-2, example, Aaron Nichols
finished third, but was the top D-2 rider, so he received 1st place points in D-2.

Indy 06/17/06 Indy is going to have to enlarge their pits. As a larger turnout of a variety of motorized vehicles showed up to compete at Indy . The track was in good shape and for the most part great for racing. A group of speedway riders and supporters from the Chicago area came down for a try and showed some fine style on and off the track. They shared some really great ideas on how to improve the speedway show. Joe Garrison was on a borrowed bike and was getting it dialed in as the night went on. Todd Eads was on target all night and if the storm hadn't come, I don't believe he was going to be denied tonight. I'm assuming the races were canceled. As soon a the big storm hit I took my sore and beat up body home. Taraska was a class above the rest in 2nd division tonight, and was on his way to an easy 2nd. Div Main win before the storm hit. Preston Dorfmeyer got off hard, as did a few others last night. I heard a broken collar bone, but he showed no pain in his face when I saw him walk off the track. I was really looking forward to the mains. I believe they were going to be the best this year. The track was good and the riders were really pushing it to the limit. NEXT RACE JULY 1st |

Indy Practice 06/14/06 Big turn out of riders for a practice night. There were a lot of flat trackers, a couple of four wheelers and about eight speedway riders in attendance. The track was well prepared and well maintained through out the night. A couple of new speedway riders did some laps, and will be a good addition to the show when they start racing. Aaron Nichols is getting his new bike sorted out. Jerry Huff said he is going to ride the number 44 (raced last year by Marc Gauthier) this Saturday Night. When the sun went down the track really came in. Alan Rush and I went out for the last speedway session and came away looking forward to this Saturday Night. I printed some track Decals that will be handed out at sign up. one to each rider. Please display them proudly and help support Indy. High speed internet connection required |

Quick Report
May 27th. Opening Night Indianapolis National Speedway.
First of all it was really good to see the riders and staff at Indy. Congratulations Joe Garrison, winner of the First Division Main, BJ Fesselmeyer winner of the Second Division Main. A fine performance was but in by first time rider, Dean Knipp's Nephew, Reese. A fall in the 3rd Division Main cost him the main event win on his first night of racing a speedway bike. Gabor Kucsera took a well earner second, Both of these riders will be riding competitively in 2nd Div. soon. Good speedway style was shown by Todd Eads and Johnny Greeley on a track that was not conducive to sliding the rear wheel. The front wheels were slipping and caused a few falls. As always Joe's performance was a pleasure to watch. The pit environment was much improve. It was more quit, safer and a place where you could relax between races. Thanks Dean.
